![]() Players in the American League use the Designated Hitter.Ģ0/Twenty is a wildly popular version of Cricket. Soccer players accept that goalies can take more than 4 steps now. Hockey goalies accept that their pads are smaller now. Still doesn't make those stupid bar rules the correct way to play the game.įootball players don't tell Quarterbacks to pound sand when they attempt a forward pass.īasketball players don't get salty when a long shot counts as 3.īasketball players don't cry when they get a shot clock violation. Learn the BCAPL rules, and then when you have the table, tell everyone that's how you are playing and if they don't know the rules tell them to look them up. ![]() Scratching on the 8 is game over in APA, TAP, and most common sets of Bar Rules.īut again, don't play Bar Rules, they suck. APA plays ball in hand on all fouls and called pocket (rather than it must go "clean" or you must call every detail of the shot) on the 8, so I don't know why they insist on keeping this dumb rule, but they have. This is also the rule in APA leagues, which is a league for beginners and carried this rule over from the bar rules. The game is never over until the 8-ball goes into a pocket.īar Rules: Shooter loses. The next player has ball in hand, anywhere on the table. Player is shooting at the 8-ball (meaning they have made all of their group first) and they scratch (cue ball is pocketed or jumps off table).īCAPL: In this situation BCAPL rules say that because the 8-ball is still on the table the game continues as it would after anyother foul. It is linked in the sidebar to the right (as BCA Rule Book).īCAPL rules take a lot of the luck out of the game, they don't punish players for getting to the 8-ball first, and are more fair and less subjective, leading to less fights. If I may suggest a set of rules, I believe the Billiards Congress of America Pool League (BCAPL) has the best rule set for 8-ball currently. You are 100 times better off learning an official set of rules and sticking to them. First, try and not play by bar rules, because they are a terrible way to play the game of 8-ball, and because they are colloquial rules, they vary from place to place, table to table, player to player.
